Privacy Policy

As Software Rangers we care deeply about your privacy and try to do what is right and in your interest.

This text describes how we handle your data when you use our apps, websites and services.

Who we are
We are the Software Rangers (Software Rangers GmbH, Schafjückenweg 2, 26180 Rastede, Germany), and you can reach us at support@software-rangers.com. We're responsible for the data that our products and services process and store.
What data do we transmit and store?

We value your privacy and by default we collect only essential data that is actually needed to provide our services and the functionality in our apps.

Website

Our website only uses essential cookies that are necessary for it to work. Privacy is a priority for us - that is why we do not use tracking cookies.

Apps

Our apps only contact our servers automatically in these cases:

  • to check for updates

  • to verify your Pro license key (if you have one)

  • to implement functionality inside the apps that is supported by a server backend

If you use the free version of our apps then you do not need a license at all and you do not have to login or register. If you have a Pro license then you only need the license key - no login in our app is required.

Update checks are anonymous and do not send personal data.

The only personal data sent during license checks is your license key, which can possibly be linked to your purchase (depending on where you bought it). The legal basis for this data processing is contract fulfillment (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), as we need to verify the license to unlock the Pro functionality.

Our apps may ask for your permission to transmit additional data. If so, then it will be a clear and simple question. For example, our apps may ask to submit error data, so that we can fix any bugs that might occur. The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Please take note of the section below with specific additional information about AI Ranger.

Server Infrastructure
Our server infrastructure is hosted by Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, Luxembourg, EU (Privacy Policy: https://aws.amazon.com/privacy). It acts as data processor on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR. Our contract with them includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

The data is stored in Frankfurt, Germany, EU.

Like all web services, the server backend will briefly see your IP address when data is transferred between your browser or the app and our servers. The IP address may also be stored to protect the server infrastructure from attacks and enable efficient processing. The legal basis for this data processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The IP addresses are not used for other purposes and the data is only stored as long as necessary and then deleted.

Special information for AI Ranger

AI Ranger enables you to use cloud based AIs from different AI providers.

The AIs do not know who you are. They receive no identifying information, not even see your IP address (unless you explicitly include this information in the data you enter).

We only work with AI providers who guarantee that the data you submit is not used for AI training.

The location of the AI infrastructure is clearly indicated in the AI selection box in the AI Ranger settings screen. You control where your data is processed. In the default setting all processing happens in the EU.

We currently use these AI providers:

Support requests and emails

If you send a support request or an email then that data is stored in our email and helpdesk system.

The helpdesk system is provided by JetBrains s.r.o., Czech Republic (Privacy policy: https://www.jetbrains.com/privacy-security). The data is stored in the EU.Emails are processed and stored by our email provider: Soverin B.V., Netherlands (Privacy policy: https://soverin.com/about/privacy). The data is also stored in the EU.

These providers act as data processors on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR. Our contracts with them include the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Error reporting

Our apps can optionally send error data to us to allow us to find bugs and other problems more quickly. This will only happen if you explicitly allow it and the apps will ask for your permission in a clear and straightforward way. We try to keep these messages anonymous, but error messages can sometimes inadvertently contain personal data (for example in file names included in error messages). The transmitted information is used only for error diagnosis and will be deleted after 90 days.

The error collection and processing functionality is provided by sentry.io, which is operated by Functional Software, Inc., USA (privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy). Sentry acts as a data processor on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR. Our contract with them includes the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). All data is stored in the EU.
No Profiling

We do not use personal data for automated decision-making or profiling.
